Question: Are communities still operating Project Roomkey? If so , is Project Roomkey providing temporary isolation shelter for COVID-19 positive/symptomatic? Or also for highly vulnerable folks due to age and/or underlying condition? If communities are no longer operating Project Roomkey, when did you stop operations? Thank you!

Ventura County is still providing Project Roomkey motel vouchers at three sites with a transition to two sites in March 2023. The vouchers are prioritized for those who qualify under the FEMA criteria, as highly vulnerable to COVID-19. We will be relying on State CDSS funds once FEMA funding ends in February 2023. The County’s Public Health Department provides isolation shelter for COVID positive cases at a separate hotel site. We hope to transition the majority of Project Roomkey clients into Homekey motel conversion projects, as well as new senior housing development for our 65+ population. Please reach out if you have additional questions.

Santa Barbara County ceased expanded COVID -19 positive isolation and quarantine in March 2022.
Our efforts to hotel high risk persons continues today on a very small scale, the two larger hotel projects ended in December 2021 and January 2022 respectively.
