Question: How are you compensating people with lived expertise of homelessness for participation in planning groups and evaluation panels? What rate are you using? What funding source? Do you pay by check or gift card? What have you done to keep it low barrier (i.e. get around SAM clearance or local insurance requirements)?

The Ventura County CoC has an RFP open until 8/31/2022 to contract with a qualified organization to engage people with lived experience in homelessness. We are using FY22 CoC Planning Grant funds to organize a community workgroup, offer mentoring, provide training and offer stipends to those who participate. The contracted organization will issue gift cards and may also provide an hourly rate to those who regularly participate in workshops and committee meetings. The insurance coverage is being provided by the organization. We received HUD TA from Abt Associates to help us with this new project and we’re looking forward to it! Please reach out if you have any further questions.
